A 3300+ Acre Refuge for Wetlands Restoration and Stunning Explorations

This beautiful out-of-the-way treasure is like stepping back in time to pre-settlement days. At over 3300 acres, the refuge serves as a living laboratory for wetlands restoration techniques while still providing plenty of room for hiking, birding, paddling and wildlife watching.

Hiking trails are well-kept, wide (mostly flat with some gentle hills) and marked with great interpretative signs. Seasonal paddling and fishing are also available and accessible from the middle parking area. Bicycling is available only on the Marquis Oak Ridge Trail.

Make sure to take time for climbing the observation tower for magnificent views, particularly at sunset. Three parking areas provide easy access to each area of this large refuge.
